Mark Larrimore and I were asked to offer a workshop on New School Histories for Family Weekend. It was an opportunity to return to an ongoing but episodic conversation. As usual, it was a joy to do this with Mark (slides here). Parents were attentive and asked good questions, such as what is a future innovation of The New School in the works?! (Both Mark and I picked the importance of design and the arts to the liberal arts rather than the more common refrain of the opposite, the importance of the liberal arts to design and the arts.) We also had an enactment of the continual debate about our histories–students revealed posters prodding the New School to divest from military companies aiding the war in Gaza in the middle of our presentation.
